The Marquis de Favras was a French nobleman and military officer who lived during the late 18th century. He is perhaps best known for his involvement in a failed plot to overthrow King Louis XVI of France in 1789.
Favras was a staunch supporter of the monarchy and opposed the growing power of the revolutionary movement that was sweeping across France at the time. In December 1789, he conspired with other royalists to plan a coup d'état that would have overthrown the king and restored power to the nobility.
However, the plot was discovered by authorities, and Favras was arrested on charges of treason. He was tried and convicted in a highly publicized trial, and on February 19, 1790, he was executed by hanging in Paris.
Despite his unsuccessful attempt to overthrow the king, Favras became a martyr for the royalist cause, and his execution only fueled further animosity between the revolutionaries and the monarchy. His legacy continues to be a subject of fascination and debate among historians and scholars.
